WHAT TO CONSIDER BEFORE A COSMETIC TATTOO

You cannot have a cosmetic tattoo treatment if you are pregnant or, breastfeeding.

Auto immune conditions compromise the body’s healing abilities. If you have an autoimmune condition, it is best to consult with your doctor before a tattoo procedure.

Medications also compromise the body’s healing abilities. Examples include blood pressure, heart, diabetic, blood thinning, roaccutane medications etc.

Every skin type and body will metabolise pigment at a different rate - hence why cosmetic treatments may last longer for some and not for others.

Every skin type will take to pigment differently and throw different shades of warm and cool. All of these pigments have different shades of blue, red, orange, and yellow. As pigment fades, different colours will be removed first leaving the strongest pigment last. Sometimes after a few months, the pigment can throw more warmth when cooler tones have metabolised faster, OR pigment can throw cooler tones such as ash or grey when warmer tones have been metabolised faster.

If you have had cosmetic tattoo previously from another artist, there is always the possibility of needing a removal session before implanting pigment again. This will be discussed at your initial consultation.

It is recommended to have a touch up / colour boost anywhere from 12 months - 2 years after your initial appointment to keep your tattoo looking fresh.

If you are considering a lip tattoo and a prone to cold sores, anti-viral tablets should be taken for the 3 days prior to your appointment.

You must disclose to your artist if you have hepatitis and HIV before having a procedure so cross contamination measures are eliminated even further.

You must disclose if you have had lip fillers or Botox in the last 3 months.

Oily skin types are best to try machine brow techniques over microblading as pigment can escape and blur far quicker when using blading techniques.

Dry and normal skin types are suitable for most techniques.

You cannot donate blood or plasma within 6 months from your tattoo appointment.

Paw paw cream or ointment interferes with tattoo pigment. DO NOT use paw paw.

You will require 1 (sometimes 2) follow up visits 6 weeks’ apart to achieve final result or adjustment.

It is against the law in Queensland to perform a tattoo procedure on a person under the age of 18.

You will need to avoid direct sunlight for a minimum of 2 weeks following your procedure. If you are outside for work or other purposes, use SPF.

Numbing cream (pre numb and stay numb) is available on request from a compounding pharmacy. A link is available in our website. Legally, this is the clients responsibility and an expense which is the clients responsibility. An artist cannot purchase this for a client. Aftercare is the most important factor of any cosmetic tattoo. You will be given the appropriate aftercare forms and cream which you must follow and apply 100% correctly. The number one reason why a cosmetic tattoo will go patchy, fade, or throw unexpected tones too quickly is because aftercare has not been followed. Unfortunately, when you leave the salon after your cosmetic tattoo appointment, your healing is out of your artists control. It is then up to you to be sure you have taken the advice given to you to allow your tattoo to heal to the best of your body’s ability.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR UPCOMING TATTOO

Clients who have booked in for cosmetic tattoo must use the link to order numbing cream at least 1 week before your appointment. Legally, it is against the law for a salon/therapist to purchase or order this product for a client. Once the form in completed, payment is made ($34.95 including postage) and approval is given by a Pharmacist, this product will be delivered straight to the salon. TATTOO NUMBING LINK.

Avoid alcohol 24hrs before your appointment. 

No coffee 5 hours before your procedure.

Suspend blood thinning medication for 24-48 hours before your appointment. Consult your doctor before doing this. 

Avoid the sun for a week prior to your appointment. 

Avoid waxing and tinting 1 week prior to your appointment. 

No Botox or filler for 1 month prior to your appointment. 

Do not take fish oil or vitamin E tablets for 1 week prior to your appointment. 

Discontinue any vitamin A/Retinol 2 weeks prior to your appointment. 

Do not have any chemical peels or skin treatments for 1 month prior. 

If you are scheduled for an eyeliner tattoo, come to your appointment with no eye make up, mascara or lash extensions. 

If you are scheduled for a lip tattoo and have ever had a cold sore, it is highly recommended you take anti-viral medication from the pharmacist and as well as lysine tablets 5 days prior and 5 days after your appointment.
